I am a principal research scientist at EDC, which is not always an informative title. It means I write a lot of grants to work with some pretty amazing people, like teachers, researchers, directly impacted leaders, students, changemakers, and of course, all those on STEM-OPS!
One interesting aspect of my work is that I have done extensive work and original research in both socio-political history and mathematics, and I integrate these two focal areas as I adhere to my anchoring commitment in social and racial justice: to shift systems to repay the accumulated debt society owes to all historically underrepresented populations, particularly populations of color and directly impacted people. In 2018, I was awarded the National Council of Supervisors of Mathematics (NCSM) Kay Gilliland Equity Award. In addition, I bring extensive expertise in systems change, addressing race-based inequities, instructional design, professional development, and advancing effective mathematics instruction for underserved populations.
Before working at EDC, I was a high school mathematics teacher and an urban district mathematics supervisor. I have a bachelor’s degree in History from Princeton University and a master’s and doctorate in curriculum and instruction from University of Maryland, College Park.
