Ira Murray

I am the associate director of research and development and a research scientist at the Vanderbilt University Initiative for Race Research and Justice (RRJ). At RRJ, I oversee our research portfolio, grants, and partnerships. Prior to this role, I served as president and chief executive officer of United Way of the Capital Area in Jackson, Mississippi. At both Vanderbilt University and United Way, I have led equity-focused research and strategic planning efforts, including helping to craft United Way’s networkwide equity strategy and framework. My current work focuses on developing deeper knowledge and understanding of the role of race equity in the decision making of educators inside and outside of school.

I have a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Florida A&M University, a master’s in Education from Vanderbilt University, and PhD in Education from the University of Pittsburgh. I am an avid runner and sneakerhead and enjoy spending time with my family at a beach near you!
