This virtual 2-year individualized training and mentoring program is designed to support Trainees in becoming NIH-funded researchers focused on recovery support services within the focus areas of the JEAP Initiative.

The Training Institute includes:

• 3-day virtual Training Workshop

On July 31st- August 2nd, 2023, you will participate in a 3-day virtual Training Workshop with a small cohort of Trainees.

• 2 years of distance mentoring

You will receive mentoring tailored to help you become an NIH-funded researcher focused on recovery support services from a primary mentor from the JEAP Initiative team. (This mentoring is intended to supplement, not replace, the mentoring received at your home institution.) All mentoring will be conducted virtually.

• Access to various seminars

You will have the opportunity to attend seminars on topics such as preparing key components of an NIH grant application, preparing manuscripts for publication, addressing ethical challenges with conducting research on recovery support services, and more.

• Access to pilot study funding

You will have the opportunity to apply for pilot study funding to collect preliminary data for NIH grant applications.

• Access to travel funds

You will be eligible to request funding to support travel to a JEAP-related professional development, training, or mentoring activity (e.g., presenting results from JEAP Initiative pilot study, meeting in-person with JEAP Initiative mentor).

• Opportunity to collaborate with Community Boards

You will be able to get input on your research ideas from our three Community Boards of providers and payors, young adults in recovery, and formerly justice-involved adults in recovery.

• Access to network of peers

You will have the opportunity to build a network of peers focused on recovery support services, including the early career researchers in your cohort and the previous cohort of the Training Institute, established researchers, providers, and people with lived experience. The JEAP Initiative also is part of the Consortium on Addiction Science (CoARS), a collaboration of 11 projects focused on recovery support services.

• Access to methods and statistics expertise

You will have access to the JEAP Initiative team and expert Consultants who have expertise in a variety of research methods and statistical approaches.

• Access to expert Consultants

You also will have access to expert Consultants to the JEAP Initiative who are available to provide advice and mentoring. The Consultants have a wide range of expertise on topics, such as implementation science, behavioral health intervention research, intensive longitudinal data collection, justice re-entry interventions, medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD), LGBTQIA+ populations, and public system-involved populations.
