Operation Restoration (OR) was founded in 2016 by Syrita Steib to support women and girls impacted by incarceration to recognize their full potential, restore their lives, and discover new possibilities. OR focuses on advocacy, education, economic mobility, and true economic equity for their staff, clients, and the community. OR’s long-term goal is to end the incarceration of women and girls. Their work removes barriers to re-entry and seeks to eliminate financial and societal incentives for incarceration/detention to increase investments in social services, education, housing, and healthcare for all people, but especially for women impacted by incarceration through education.
Every program and initiative OR undertakes is led by formerly incarcerated women and designed in response to community needs. This reality enables OR to operate from a lens of empathy and non-judgment. OR creates and runs programming that embodies hope, restoration, and possibility.
