In 2024, the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) will announce new programs to help eligible entities pursue activities to advance digital equity in their communities. Therefore, several organizations – the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Educational Technology, National Association of State Directors of Adult Education, Coalition on Adult Basic Education (COABE), World Education, National Skills Coalition, NATIONAL COALITION FOR ADULT LITERACY INC, CHIEF OFFICERS OF STATE LIBRARY AGENCIES INC, and Association of Community College Trustees – are collaborating to help prepare the adult education sector for this unique opportunity.

This upcoming webinar series and free workshop invites adult education leaders at the state, local, and institution levels to build their awareness of the relevant policy context and learn why this issue is important to their stakeholders. To further support adult education leaders in seeing themselves as a critical component of this national focus on digital equity, the two-part webinar series will feature experts to showcase diverse “possibility models” of successful and replicable strategies from around the country. Finally, the webinar series will prepare participants for a digital equity workshop to be held during the COABE National Conference, where you will have an opportunity to develop/refine ideas, learn from peers, and develop critical relationships with other leaders in your states/regions.

Discover the facts about various loan rehab, cancellation, and deferment options at our upcoming event. This session aims to provide clarity on the truth behind the availability of rehab and cancellation programs.

While the event will feature insights into loan servicing options for justice-impacted students, this is not exclusively a Higher Education in Prison event. It’s a comprehensive information session with discussions on the current landscape for impacted students, insights into how we reached this point, and practical steps we can take individually and collectively to move forward.

Project AIM is an initiative at SNHU with the mission to provide an educational pathway for incarcerated learners. We are in our third year of hosting STOP THE STIGMA, organized completely by current SNHU students. Our goal is to spread awareness to the community at large on the challenges faced by justice impacted individuals. The conference provides a space to discuss issues related to transportation, employment, housing, and educational opportunities. The event takes March 28-30, 2024 at Southern New Hampshire University. Specific location details to come.

We will feature presenters who will speak to three very important issues regarding our mission of STOP THE STIGMA — legal/judicial, where you will hear from lawyers, judges, and others in the legal field regarding the stigma justice impacted individuals face. Directly impacted individuals will present about their experiences with the legal system, incarceration, and experiences outside in the community. Finally, our education track will feature speakers who will highlight some issues regarding incarceration and education. We will also have speakers from SNHU, including students taking BUS-225! Keep an eye out for e-mails highlighting our speakers!

An Awards Ceremony/Banquet will be hosted, honoring community members and businesses that have extended their support for justice impacted individuals and helping stop the stigma. Dinner will be catered and registration for this will come in a separate form later.

Registration for this event is FREE. The purpose of this form is to gauge interest from the community. We are working on figuring out capacity needs both virtually and in person. If you would like to attend in person, there will be hotel accommodations available (information to come on this at a later date). Restorative Justice Week (RJW) has been celebrated annually across Canada since 1996 during the third week of November. RJW events aim to acknowledge the impacts of restorative justice (RJ) in the legal system, education, health, national defense, conservation, fisheries, and communities. RJW is also a time to raise awareness of RJ and celebrate RJ advocates, supporters, practitioners, educators, participants and researchers.

The National Restorative Justice Symposium 2023 will take place virtually on November 20 – 21. Our theme is Inspiring Innovation: Moving Restorative Justice from Margin to Mainstream. We will explore the possibilities and tensions of mainstreaming restorative justice, the power of localized efforts and the realities of systemic inequity.

GOALS:

to create space for learning, reflection, and collaborative dialogue on successes and
challenges from across the country

to engage participants in an exploration of how we can use collaboration, advocacy and
education to increase the use of restorative justice practices, principles, and values when tackling complex social issues

The annual NRJS brings together 250-300 people from across Canada and beyond. Our registrants are practitioners, researchers, academics, community members, advocates, systems representatives, policy and lawmakers, educators, other experts and stakeholders interested in restorative justice and its transformative potential. Our intention is to prioritize Indigenous, Black and People of Colour voices and members of all historically excluded communities.

Once again this year we are offering two pre-symposium workshops. A full-day of training about relational mediation will be delivered in French on Sunday, Nov 19 AND a two-day workshop on RJ & sexual harm will take place Saturday, Nov 18 and Sunday Nov 19.
