The Rewriting the Sentence II Summit

The Rewriting the Sentence II Summit, presented by the Center for Justice and Human Dignity, is the long-awaited sequel to the acclaimed Rewriting the Sentence summit of 2019, hosted by The Aleph Institute at Columbia University Law School. The Summit will continue to raise awareness and promote the expanded use of alternatives to incarceration, with a special focus on how trauma impacts the criminal legal system.

Rise UP Conference 2023

Join us for the third annual Rise Up Conference. In the first two years, the Rise Up conference drew over 1100 registrants and raised over $50,000 to fund the conference and compensate directly impacted presenters for their time, expertise, and experiences. The conference had speakers from throughout the U.S. as well as from around the world! The 2023 Rise Up Conference is scheduled for September 6-8, 2023 – and it’s time to make your voices heard. If you are a directly impacted student, higher education in prison practitioner or alum, or other kind of professional, and you have something to say about one of this year’s five tracks, we want to hear from you. Check out the Rise Up Conference website or, if you’re ready to submit your proposal, head right to the submission form. Currently incarcerated presenters are also welcome to apply, and we will work with those authors on a presentation format that accommodates their circumstances. Transformative Education Collective’s BaseCamp 2023

This all-inclusive retreat focuses on educator wellness, equity-centered trauma informed care, and critical teaching practices in the carceral higher-ed classroom. The intent of this event is to serve the practitioner holistically through reflective approaches to our self-care routines, anthropological practices in the classroom; to directly address oppressive systems of racism, colonialism, and punitive practices in higher education. We do this through knowledge labs, horizontal community exchanges, support of peers, and critical self-reflection to develop efficacious carceral educators. This is an inclusive environment developed to allow personal and professional growth at any level of experience.
